What's HOT South Florida :: 01/07 - 01/13
Scott Holland READ TIME: 4 MIN.
A week ago Wednesday was the much anticipated grand opening of Sean David's Ballz Sports Bar. When I arrived at 7 pm, there was a long line to get in and once inside the place was packed. I would like to congratulate my good friend Sean, and wish him and his staff only the best!
Thursday night was New Year's Eve, and started a weekend celebration that was packed everywhere I went in Fort Lauderdale and Miami. From New Year's Eve Celebrations, to Genesis, to Urge Parties through Saturday night events, it was just amazing. I am sure Sunday night was busy also, but I was way too tired to go out again, so I had the pleasure to get tickets to see "Forbidden Broadway" (thanks Savannah), which was absolutely incredible. If you are a lover of Broadway, as I am, I urge you all to go see this show the next time it comes to town. I promise you will be laughing uncontrollably.
Afterwards, I went to Guillermo (AKA, Viva Mirage's) birthday house party, which was a low-key celebration of a great friend's birthday! I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's weekend and I wish all the Hotspots readers a fabulous New Year!

"The Jackie Mason Musical" takes place at Empire Stage today and plays through January 24. The musical begins at a deli in Miami in 1977, where Jackie, a renowned 46 year old Comedian, spots twenty-something Ginger (played by Jackie's own daughter - comedian Sheba Mason). Along for the ride is her overbearing mom, Mrs. Olivier and a hilarious cast of six. Soon Jackie is wooing her each winter whenever he's in South Florida churning up laughs with the South Beach set. The trouble is, Jackie is also wooing Trixie - a ravishing young Latina, and Rosa, a senior citizen with attitude, a fact that sends Ginger into romantic distress. After 10 years, she becomes pregnant, Jackie denies his paternity, while still yearning to be with her, and a complicated relationship begins, including Sheba's own love for the man she knows is her father and whom she wishes she knew. The Original Score includes "Ode to the Early Bird Special" and "I Never Met This Yenta". For more info or to buy tickets, go to: TheJackieMasonMusical.com or call
