Listen: Luke Evans Drops a Summer Anthem (with a Little Help from DJ Eliad Cohen)
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Looking for a summer anthem? How about one by two queer celebrity hotties – one of a film and television superstar, the other a music producer and DJ?
The anthem is "Only One Of You." The queer superstar is Luke Evans, and the queer music producer and DJ is Israeli entrepreneur Eliad Cohen. The song dropped on social media on June 27th.
"The remix you didn't know your summer needed 🌞🙌🏼🎷 Out now on all streaming platforms - go listen!" writes Cohen on Instagram.
The thumping anthem features a vocal by Evans, who, before film stardom, was a regular in musicals in London's West End. And the remix is by Cohen, who is finishing up a month of DJ-ing at major Pride events in Miami, DC, LA, London, Houston, and New York City.
Evans wrote the song as a celebration of one's identity – a perfect theme for a Pride-timed release. The lyric contains "a nod to what Pride Month represents," and that it is about "celebrating being proud." He collaborated with Amy Wadge, best known for co-writing 'Thinking Out Loud' with Ed Sheeran, for which she took home a GRAMMY Award for Song of the Year in 2016.
Last year in an interview in The Standard, he said, "I am writing right now and I've been recording a few things so I may release something in the new year, I'm not sure yet. That never stops."
Adding, "I love singing. I would like to maybe do some touring next year, I'm not entirely sure when but that would be the next step for me to take a show on the road, which would be really fun."
At the time of the interview, Evans had returned to West End to star opposite Penelope Wilton in "Backstairs Billy," a comedic drama exploring the unique, decades-long relationship between the Queen Mother and her devoted servant, Billy Tallon, who served her for over 50 years. The play had a limited three-month run from October 2023 to January 2024 and it marked Evans' return to the London stage, where he had previously appeared in such musicals as "Miss Saigon," "Piaf," "Avenue Q," and "Taboo."
"Only One of You' marks a departure for Evans from the orchestral and classical arrangements of Evans' previous albums, featuring a catchy hook, soaring melody, and uplifting lyrics that celebrate individuality, self-love, and acceptance.
