Watch: Vandal Defaces Gay Pub's Kamala Harris Sign - Twice

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.

A vandal set out to destroy a Washington, D.C. gay pub's property, spray painting over not one, but two signs supportive of presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Security footage caught him in the act, and police are on the case.

As reported by local news station nbcwashington.com, the vandal's first attack on the signs – which are owned and were displayed by "The Little Gay Pub at 11th and P Street Northwest in Logan Circle" – saw him scrawl the cryptic letters "HMS" across Harris' portrait.

The owners of The Little Gay Pub had no idea of the damage until they were notified by a neighbor.

But the second episode of property destruction was caught on video, as the vandal defaced a bus stop before moving on to paint a large X over Harris' face on a new sign that replaced the previously damaged one.

"You know, people have their dissenting opinion, that's great," one of the pub's owners, Dito Secilla, told the news station. "They should voice their opinion their own way, but not by defacing public property and private displays."

"The signs were posted around the pub's outdoor seating area," the station detailed, "and Sevilla says this is the only negative response he's gotten for anything."

"And we got him on camera, of course," Sevilla told the news station, which noted that the city's police department have opened an investigation.

Said Sevilla: "Elections bring out the worst in people." But that's not going to cause The Little Gay Pub to back down from support for the candidate, who currently serves as the Vice President of the United States.

"Vandalism here and there is going to happen," Sevilla said, adding that despite the two signs that have already bene destroyed, "we're thrilled to put her back up again."
