Cher Reveals She Dates Younger Men Because Guys Her Own Age are Either 'All Dead' or 'Terrified'

Global superstar Cher is unapologetic about dating men younger than herself – her current boyfriend, 30 years her junior, is an example. But it turns out she's just being pragmatic.

The "If I Could Turn Back Time" singer made the admission when she appeared as a guest on "The Jennifer Hudson Show," Billboard relayed.

Saying that she's "shy around men," the 77-year-old recording artist let fly with the disclosure that "the reason I go out with young men is because men my age or older – well, now they're all dead – but before they just never" would work up the nerve to ask her out.

Cher explained that men of her own generational cohort "were always terrified to approach me and younger men were the only ones that" pushed past any fears they might have harbored around making an overture.

Hudson knew where Cher was coming from. "They're bold," she said of younger guys.

"Yeah!" Cher agreed. "Raised by women like me!"

Billboard pointed out that Cher's current relationship is "with 38-year-old music exec Alexander 'A.E.' Edwards..."

"Cher went Insta official with Edwards in Nov. 2022 with a pic of them holding hands," the music magazine recalled. "When asked if he was her 'new man,' she posted a smiling emoji, shutting down haters comments on their 40-year age gap by saying 'love doesn't know math' then doubling-down on that emotion in January after posting another snuggly shot captioned 'Love is Love.'"

"Cher's remarks about younger men came as she was discussing previous dating experiences, including why she turned down an opportunity to date Elvis Presley," UK newspaper the Independent noted.

"It was because I was nervous and I knew of the people around him," Cher detailed to Hudson, before adding: "and it wasn't that they were bad people, it's just that I was kind of nervous of his reputation."

Reports didn't elaborate on what Cher might have meant by that, but if Elvis' reputation at the time was similar to what audiences saw depicted in "Priscilla" – last year's biopic based on the memoirs of Elvis' wife Priscilla Presley – her jitters seem understandable.

Cher has talked about dating Edwards in past interviews, Business Insider recalled, citing comments the "Believe" singer made to Extra about the occasional challenges of being romantically linked with someone of a different generation.

"Sometimes I'm talking to him and he has no idea who I'm talking about," the superstar mused. "He'll look at me and go, 'I wasn't born yet.'"

Business Insider also noted that "This isn't Cher's first age-gap relationship: She met her ex-husband and singing partner Sonny Bono when she was 16 and he was 27. They were married from 1964 to 1975."

When Cher discusses her relationship with Edwards, the years truly don't seem to matter.

"I hate to talk about how happy I am, but no, we have a great time together," the Independent recalled her telling Extra. "We can talk music. We can talk about everything. He's a got a great sense of humor, he's got the cutest son in the world, ever... We just get each other."

Love is love, indeed.
