Study: Kids with Two Dads Do Better Than Others

Surprising no one, a new study shows that children born to two gay dads turn out just fine. In fact, they seem to be thriving over other kids.

Published in the journal Family Process, researchers from Belgium, Italy and California examined 67 European families of gay men and compared them to 67 European heterosexual couples. Both groups examined had children between the ages of 1 to 10 years old, with the kids of straight couples being conceived naturally and the kids of gay parents conceived via surrogate.

According to the results of the study, researchers found that gay dads had better behaved and happier children compared to the other children. Additionally, researchers gay men "reported greater positive coparenting, more equal sharing of childcare tasks, and greater satisfaction with task sharing, compared to heterosexual parents."

Interesting.

However, researchers found that when children of gay parents tended to have more internalized issues when faced with homophobic microaggressions. Basically, there isn't a problem until someone comes along and tells them it's a problem.

The results of the study are thought to not only shed light on the damaging effects of anti-LGBTQ policies and provide a counterpoint to policies that would ban gestational surrogacy.
