Lil Nas X greeted his Madame Tussauds wax figure doppelganger in his typical jocular fashion – with admiring exclamations and a smooch that, luckily, wasn't hot enough to melt wax. Later, the "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)" singer took to social media to declare that he "never thought i would get the pleasure of meeting myself," and that "the sexual tension was too much to bare [sic]".
"Oh my God, it's so good!" the openly gay, award-winning hip-hop artist can be heard saying in a video of the unveiling, Vibe reported. "Oh my God his eyes! This is like the best one I've ever seen, this is like the most accurate."
"Are we twins or what?" the "Industry Baby" singer added. "I knew this was going to be good but this is like, scary amazing."
"The rapper's video clip also shared a snippet of the singer's newest song "Star Walkin'," Billboard imparted, going on o recall that "Lil Nas announced earlier this week that the new single would officially be released on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. EST."
The figure's accuracy was no accident, Billboard noted. Calling the replica, which Madame Tussauds Hollywood revealed on Sept. 20, "eerily accurate," Billboard took note of the fact that the figure captures a celebrated moment in the singer's history of striking wardrobe choices.
"Dressed up in the golden plate armor that he famously wore to the 2021 Met Gala, the resemblance was uncanny – especially when Lil Nas X stood right next to it," Billboard observed, before adding: "The wax museum also noted in its release that the artist's wax figure is the first to have a grill."
"Madame Tussauds artists also recreated his Versace earring, choker and nail art from the custom look," Vibe pointed out.
"We're thrilled to welcome Lil Nas X into the Madame Tussauds Hollywood family," the location's general manager, Therese Alvich, said in a statement. "As a musical, social and fashion icon, this figure marks an extraordinary addition to our museum. We're excited for his fans to interact with the star's identical twin!"
The two were less identical than you might think at that particular moment; Nas X attended the event in a blond wig and sunglasses, along with what seemed to be a few days' beard growth, whereas his waxen duplicate was clean shaven and looked exactly as the recording artist appeared at the Met Gala in 2021.
