Watch: Is Lil Nas X Working on A BET Diss Track?

There is bad blood brewing between Lil Nas X and the BET Awards, and now the rapper is reportedly working on a diss track.

As reported by Stereogum, Nas X did not take too kindly to receiving no nominations for the 2022 BET Awards. No, he's not being a brat, as he pointed out that he has already won several Grammys and gone platinum many times over with his record sales.

And yet, BET Award nominations elude him. In now deleted tweets, he said: "thank you bet awards. an outstanding zero nominations again... black excellence! Black gay people have to fight to be seen in this world. Even when we make it to the top, mfs try to pretend we are invisible."

This year, Nas X was nominated for five Grammys but didn't win any. He added in response to some tweets about his zero award nominations, "how can i get acknowledged by the most acclaimed award show in the world and then not even just 1 nomination from my own people? is that not crazy? am i really tripping."

Not one to suffer in silence, Nas X then let fans in on a preview of what he's working on, and it sounds like a diss track directed at BET. The snippet was of a new YoungBoy Never Broke Again song called "Late To The Party" that features the refrain "FUCK BET."

Nas X explained that his anger is about more than awards. It's about "the bigger problem of homophobia in the black community, y'all can sit and pretend all u want but imma risk it all for us," he tweeted.

Undoubtedly hearing about Nas X's response to no award nominations, a BET spokesperson issued a statement:

"We love Lil Nas X. He was nominated for a Best New Artist BET Award in 2020, and we proudly showcased his extraordinary talent and creativity on the show twice: he performed 'Old Town Road' with Billy Ray Cyrus at 'BET Awards' 2019 and his 'BET Awards' 2021 performance was a highlight of our show. No one cheered louder that night than BET," reads the statement.

The statement also clarified that nominations are handled by "an esteemed group of nearly 500 entertainment professionals in the fields of music, television, film, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations, influencers, and creative arts."

As for BET's control over the nominations, the network also clarified that "no one from BET serves as a member of the Voting Academy."

"At BET, we are passionate advocates for the wonderful diversity that exists within our community. We are committed to using all of our platforms to provide visibility and inclusion for all of the many intersections of the Black community, the statement concluded.
