Lady Gaga might not be the only one surprised that she did not get an Academy Award nomination for her "House of Gucci" performance.
"The Power of the Dog" director Jane Campion recently told The Hollywood Reporter that she was also surprised by Gaga's snub in the Best Actress category after she gave an "extraordinary" performance.
"One of the actors that I thought – in the lead female actress category – who I missed being there was Lady Gaga," said Campion, whose film landed 12 Academy Award nominations this year.
Campion went on to say that she continues to be cheerleader for women at the Academy Awards getting the recognition they deserve for their talent.
She was happy to see Kristen Stewart nominated for her portrayal of Princess Diana in "Spencer" and is also really happy for her longtime friend Nicole Kidman's Best Actress nomination as Lucy in "Being the Ricardos."
"I think it's just another sign that women are punching through those glass ceilings," Campion said of her Academy recognition. "I put the credit on the brave women that really blew the lid off Hollywood, with their revelations about abuse and inequality – I think there's been a really big rethinking and a really active determination by men and women to see that change."
Campion added, "I was able to make a film that I wouldn't have made without those women blowing things apart."
