As part of the renovation and expansion of their SoHo home at the Michael Kors Building, God's Love We Deliver has announced "1,000 Tiles for Love," a campaign where people purchase 4"x4" ceramic tiles inscribed with their name or a message, to support the initiative. All tiles will be installed in the lobby of their new building.
"Our history of having tiles in honor or in memory of our loved ones, our clients, our volunteers and our supporters has been a great point of pride for all of us at God's Love We Deliver," says David Ludwigson, Chief Development Officer of God's Love We Deliver. "We're excited that these '1,000 Tiles for Love' will be displayed in The Michael Kors Building, with the memories of so many who have been a part of our community."
In 1993, God's Love began their first tile program to help fund the renovation of their then-new kitchen. The tiles proved so popular that the effort was continued and more than 2,000 tiles were eventually installed in the building. A thousand of these historic, original tiles have been preserved and will be reinstalled in the brand new kitchen at 166 Avenue of the Americas when the current renovation of the headquarters of God's Love is completed.
Donors may choose to purchase a tile in honor or in memory of someone. Each tile has room for two lines of inscription. Tiles will be available for purchase according to the donation options below: Violet: $15,000; Blue: $10,000; Green: $5,000; Yellow: $2,500; Orange: $1,000; and Red: $500. A limited number of tiles at each price point are available; visit glwd.org/tilesforlove to purchase them.
Since October 2011, God's Love has raised more than $31 million toward their $36 million fundraising goal, including a $5 million gift from Michael Kors, an $8 million capital allocation from the City of New York, $2 million from Steven and Alex Cohen and $1 million from Jeff Gates and Mike Moran.
The new building will feature a state-of-the art commercial kitchen on the second floor with windows that overlook Sixth Avenue, an expanded delivery and pack-out area with a covered loading dock and garage doors, two rooftop herb gardens, a demonstration kitchen and much more. The expansion allows God's Love to more than double the number of meals cooked and delivered each year, increase flexibility in meal delivery and welcome new volunteers and community members into the God's Love community.
Anna Wintour to Receive Michael Kors Award
God's Love just announced that on October 16 at their Eighth Annual Golden Hearts Award dinner, they would honor Anna Wintour, Cond Nast Artistic Director and Vogue Editor-in-Chief, with the Michael Kors Award for Outstanding Community Service, presented by award-winning fashion designer Michael Kors.
"I am so honored to present Anna with this award," said God's Love board member Michael Kors. "She's been an incredibly important and vocal supporter of God's Love We Deliver and her dedication to community service knows no bounds. I applaud her commitment to helping our neighbors and seeing us to a better, kinder world. We are also thrilled to be recognizing the wonderful contributions of Les Moonves over so many years, to both God's Love and the creative community."
Leslie Moonves, President and CEO of CBS Corporation, will receive the Golden Heart Award for Lifetime Achievement, presented by Academy Award-winning actress and United Nations World Food Programme Honorary Partner Halle Berry. Wintour and Moonves are longtime supporters of the organization.
U.S. Senator from New York Kirsten Gillibrand will serve as honorary dinner co-chair. To mark the important work of God's Love We Deliver and the commitment of Michael Kors to help fight world hunger, the Eighth Annual Golden Heart Awards dinner is being held on World Food Day. God's Love We Deliver board members Blaine Trump and Michael Kors will help serve as event co-chairs along with Halle Berry and John D. Idol, Chairman and CEO of Michael Kors.
The Golden Heart Awards honor the important contributions of individuals, corporations and foundations to the organization's cause. Funds raised at the event help ensure that no person in the tri-state area suffers the dual crises of hunger and life-altering illness.
