Play More Canadian Gay Porn or Leave, Says Telecom Commission

Play more Canadian porn, says The Canadian Radio-Television & Telecommunications Commission to gay porn channel Maleflixxx, or lose your license. A recent article in Gay Star News reports that the station must meet the agreed-upon quota of original Canadian content in order to stay on the air.
According to the National Post, the CRC the CRTC issued a broadcast notice on March 5 saying that AOV Adult Movie Channel, XXX Action Clips and the gay Maleflixxx channel had all failed to meet the required 35 percent threshold for Canadian content. That equals about 8.5 hours of Canadian erotica a day.
The notice was issued when Channel Zero attempted to renew licenses for the three channels. Now, the regulator will review these "instances of apparent non-compliance" at an Apr. 28 hearing in Gatineau, Quebec.
In a follow-up article by the National Post, the publication says the problem begins with the fact that Maleflixxx "doesn't even pretend to be addressing a distinctively Canadian audience with a distinctively Canadian porn sensibility." The only distinctly Canadian title in recent rotation was "Men of Ottawa," broadcast at 3 p.m.
The Post reporter notes the irony in the fact that while there are no shortage of worthwhile Canadian-themed gay porn film scripts, "they languish in development because of the industry's reluctance to tackle distinctly Canadian issues." Those hosers!
