Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Final Season

It is a time of war!

Also, it's an era of civil unrest and corruption throughout the entire Republic. In the spanning mythology of George Lucas' epic tale set in a galaxy far, far away, it's one of the most thoroughly revisited story arcs, and perhaps the most consequential. The award-winning animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" returns for The Final Season, with brand new episodes, on the subscriber-based Disney+ hard on the heels of the network's success with the Original Series "The Mandalorian."

It appears that there is still more story left to tell, and with a captive audience eager for new content, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" picks up for its final season where the previous six seasons of the hit animated series left off. The war is still raging, and the valiant Jedi Knights, along with their clone army, battle the Separatist forces, unaware that they are all pawns of a Sith Lord in their midst. The Clone Wars is central to the stories of Jedi knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, and to that of Senator Padm Amidala, whose battlefield is in heart of the Senate.

Set between the events of the prequel feature-films Episode II and Episode III, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" animated adventures are developed by Dave Filoni (also of "The Mandalorian") and Henry Gilroy, and they have received the blessing and approval of "Star Wars" creator George Lucas from the very beginning. The series has allowed for further narrative developments in the world, especially for many background players, like the Clone Army – manufactured as a disposal defense force in a galactic conflict, the clone troopers are front and center as this final season begins.

Pressed into a desperate corner by the Separatists droid armies, the Republic Forces have little choice but to align themselves with a renegade team of mercenaries called the "Bad Batch." A Clone Trooper, Captain Rex, believes that there might be a signal emanating from another planet, strategically providing the Droid Army with an advantage – a signal that is vaguely familiar to him. Rex and his squad, team-up with the Bad Batch and follow a hunch that leads them and a Jedi Knight, General Anakin Skywalker, to a remote world where they make a shocking discovery.

The story is rich, and the characters prove as developed as fans have come to expect from "The Clone Wars" series. There has been a gap between the Sixth Season and this Final Season, and the show graphics appear to have been upgraded – there is far more detail in these renders. For example, the character design of Anakin Skywalker is starting to look a lot closer to his human counterpart from Episode III. The villains have also been significantly enhanced, and look far more threatening than they've ever done before!

Fans can only hope that breakout characters like Anakin Skywalker's one-time apprentice Ahsoka Tano are integrated into the new season, especially since she dramatically re-emerged in the follow-up series "Star Wars: Rebels" (which takes place after the war and chronicles the rise of the rebellion against the Emperor's evil empire). For Disney+ subscribers, no doubt, this opportunity to return to the universe of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," even if for one last time will be excitingly worth it.
