"For Pride we say we're always gay, but this month we're gayer," says Parke Luther of Parke & Ronen, the iconic New York-based swimwear lifestyle brand recently seen in Hulu's "Fire Island." "For us, it's about celebration. This is our community, this is our chance to hang out and let your freak flag fly."

While chatting at the brand's Pride 2022 capsule collection party and presentation in their Chelsea summer pop-up, Luther notes that it's also his partner Ronen Jehezkel's birthday and adds that it's time for the return to in-person shopping for the summer, in addition to expressing his enthusiasm for their brand's new launches. Founded in 1997, their brand celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The Pride collection was shown in four segments during the event.

Luther shares how the duo wanted to feature Pride colors and inclusion in the collection, but not by simply slapping a rainbow on the middle of a tank top. "[Instead we wanted] to use it as a design inspiration and design challenge," he says. This is noticeable with the True Colors briefs and the P-Town shorts, which feature a design inspired by the Inclusive Pride flag.

These designs are meant to be celebratory and are great for festivities, Luther continues. "It runs the gamut of different swimsuits and swim trunks to party clothes. Standouts are the Pink Pearlescent P-town disco shorts. We launched everything online last week, and we actually had to hold them back so we would have something for the show." The disco shorts truly shined at the showing, while all four designs were presented during a champagne birthday toast for Jehezkel.

Jehezkel says that the disco shorts are also his favorite from the collection. "Now, at my age," he adds, "it was a little bit challenging to fit the crop top. But I rocked it and it fit beautifully [with the shorts]." He also mentions the subtleness in some of the pieces. "The bikini has a little stitching. It's like a little tattoo of Pride on the higher part of your butt — so no one is going to miss it."

Parke & Ronen's Pride collection is available online at the Parke & Ronen website and at their summer pop-up shop (176 Ninth Ave, New York).
