Javier Fernandez Trending as Latest Olympic Hottie

Friday Feb 16, 2018

In the shorts program of men's ice skating at last night's Olympics, Spanish skater Javier Fernandez turned heads and scored high with a program in which he channeled Charlie Chaplin.

"Spanish figure skater Javier Fernandez channeled one of film history's great comic icons in his short program on Thursday night," reports today.

It is not the first time that the 26-year old Fernandez has honored Chaplin. "Fernandez has expressed his passion for the English comic actor in performances before, including at the 2013 European Championships, the 2017 Autumn Classic International and the 2018 European Championships," Billboard reported.

His routine put him in second place prior to the free skate competition that takes place tonight. He scored 107.58 score, placing him behind Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu, who was awarded a 111.68. The pair will compete tonight for medals.

And while they may be rivals on the ice, Hanyu and Fernandez are great friends off it, so much so that their bromance exploded on the Internet this week.

"Hanyu and Fernández have been competing against each other for years, but off the ice, their friendship appears to have only grown stronger," reports Time Magazine today.

"With 'Yuzu,' we are everything, we are friends, we are teammates, at some point we have to be rivals," Fernández told Reuters in 2015. "It's like having a wife, your wife is your friend, your wife is everything, but it depends on the time. When we are on the ice, we are competing against each other, but when the competition is done, we are friends again and we work together again."
