50th LA Pride Event Postponed Over Coronavirus Concerns

The 50th Los Angeles Pride event, which was scheduled to take place in June, is being postponed due to concerns over the new coronavirus, organizers said in a tweet.

The official Twitter account for LA Pride announced Wednesday that organizers "are assessing the situation" and that there will be "more information...around the postponement as details become available."

The event, scheduled for June 12-14, was expected to bring in an estimated 200,000 people, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It was also going to celebrate the 50th anniversary since LA Pride began.

Though a number of events in the coming weeks have been canceled due to concerns of COVID-19, the California LGBTQ Pride is the first major event to be postponed that is set several months from now. It's unclear when the organization will announce a new date but June is typically the biggest month for LGBTQ Pride events as it celebrates the Stonewall riots that sparked the LGBTQ rights movement, which took place in June 1969.
