During the Oscar's red carpet, "Call Me By Your Name" director Luca Guadagnino spoke with USA Today, revealing further details about the gay coming-of-age drama's sequel.

"I'm already conceiving the story with ["Call Me By Your Name" author] André Aciman, and it's gonna happen five or six years afterwards [the first movie]," the out filmmaker said. "So 1990 and it's gonna be a new movie, a different tone."

He added that the sequel will star its two leads, Armie Hammer and Timothee Chalamet, but the movie won't be set in Italy this time.

"They're gonna go around the world," Guadagnino told USA Today, suggesting the movie could take place in America.

He added that he still needs to finalize the script before filming.

This isn't the first time the director has talked about a "Call Me By Your Name" sequel. In January, he teased the new project when speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, saying the movie will focus on the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the '80s.

"I think it's going to be a very relevant part of the story," he told THR. "I think Elio [Chalamet] will be a cinephile, and I'd like him to be in a movie theater watching Paul Vecchiali's 'Once More.' "

In October 2017, he told ScreenDaily about a possible sequel.

"I want to do a sequel because Timothee Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar, Esther Garrel - they are all gems," Guadagnino said during the BFI London Film Festival. "The texture we built together is very consistent. We created a place in which you believe in the world before them. They are young but they are growing up. If I paired the age of Elio in the film with the age of Timothée, in three years' time Timothée will be 25 as would Elio by the time the second story was set."

"Call Me By Your Name" was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. James Ivory won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay during the ceremony Sunday night.
