Tape These Food Tips to the Fridge; Some Will Surprise You

Looking for some ways to look and feel better, and perhaps shed post-holiday weight? Following these tips can help perk you up and give your body a boost.

• Take a daily omega supplement (liquid is best).

• Drink at least eight glasses of water a day - not flavored water or energy drinks.

• Completely avoid refined sugar, sauces and sodium. And skip the protein bars!

• Include protein and vegetables in every meal. Drink a glass of water before and after each meal.

• Craving carbs? Try replacing your pasta with spaghetti squash.

• Do you have a special event you want to look great for? For four days prior, cut out broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, beans, pears and prunes. Though very healthful, they produce gas, and can make you look and feel bloated. (Be sure to keep them in your regular diet.)

• Don't skimp on protein, and remember that some dairy is necessary. But cut out inflammatory foods like cheese and red meat.

• Be a "teatotaler." Dandelion, peppermint and chamomile teas are great for you and act as a natural diuretic. They are safe and effective drink options to coffee and sodas. Add lemon to lower your glycemic levels.

• Want to be hotter than you already are? Spice things up. Add red pepper flakes, chopped jalapeños and hot-pepper sauce to your food to help speed metabolism and lower your hunger cravings naturally.

• Avoid anything processed or packaged, or containing preservatives and salt. Choose items that are organic, natural and low in sodium.

• Don't drink soda - regular or diet - ever! Stick with sparkling water or sodium-free club soda. And stay away from juices, especially orange juice.
